ALVINESA FINALISES ITS INVESTMENT PLAN OF OVER €60M WITH THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW PLANT FOR THE PRODUCTION OF NATURAL GRAPE EXTRACTS

With this investment Alvinesa further consolidates itself as a world reference in the extraction and elaboration of natural grape extracts

Alvinesa Natural Ingredients has approved the construction of a new plant for the production of high value-added grape-derived ingredients, such as polyphenols and anthocyanins. This investment, which totals close to 5 million euros, is another step in the company’s specialization in this segment and it follows the recent integration of two executives from large French multinationals of the sector. The construction of this plant finalizes the €60 million investment program that Alvinesa launched in 2015, as part of its strategic growth plan focused on natural ingredients.

Alvinesa’s new plant, of about 4,000 square meters, has capacity to produce more than 500,000 kilos of grape antioxidants and colorants, will have a laboratory with a clean room, a refrigerated warehouse for dry products and its own atomizer. The design of the new atomizer will involve high-tech equipment that will allow the implementation of quality management and food safety systems such as those included in the IFS, BRC, Fami-QS or GMP+ regulations.

For several years Alvinesa has been a pioneer in the elaboration of these extracts, but this new plant will allow the company to integrate the process - which was already developed internally - into a single facility. This consolidation will allow controlling the traceability of the product and offering a comprehensive service to various multinationals in the food, wine, nutraceutical, cosmetic and animal nutrition sectors. The plant will have the latest technological advances and will be fully adapted to meet all customer needs and certification requirements for these markets and customers.

Following its inauguration in 2015, this latest investment makes Alvinesa the world’s largest industrial complex dedicated to the integral use of grapes. With this cutting-edge facility, as well as its own R&D team, Alvinesa helps the wine industry - which in Spain generates about €7bn - become a 100% circular industry.

According to Jesús Cantarero, Chairman of Alvinesa Natural Ingredients, “with the new plant we reinforce our commitment to close the complete grape cycle, taking advantage of all its wealth and positioning ourselves as a clear reference in Circular Economy”. For Cantarero this investment is important in two aspects: “on the one hand, our production capacity will depend on ourselves and on the other hand it will allow us to continue opening new lines of research and manufacturing”.
