Alvinesa strives to be the “circular economy” agriculture champion and operates every day with these core circular economy principles:

  • Eliminate agricultural waste and pollution

  • Circulate products and materials at their highest value

  • Regenerate nature and utilize renewable energy and materials

We transform 100% of the raw materials we source (plant-based matter such as wine grape pomace, wine lees, wine) into ingredients that are used to produce a range of mostly consumer products for global markets. For example, grapes are grown, used in the wine-making process, and then everything left over (the pomace: skin and seed) is used to create natural ingredients for the nutrition, food, beverage, animal nutrition and wine-making industries. This is a notable difference versus companies that process actual foods to make their ingredients. In contrast, Alvinesa does not reduce the available food supply. We do not destroy food to make ingredients!

A high percentage of the energy required to run our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility comes from renewable energy generation:

  • 100% of the steam required comes from using biomass that we manufacture from grape pomace

  • Up to 30% of the electricity required comes from our own 2.5 megawatt solar power system

  • Of the electricity that we purchase, 50% is generated renewably

Alvinesa is committed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 12, which is to “ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns;” and the following sub-goals:

  • Goal 12.2: By 2030, achieve the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources

  • Goal 12.5: By 2030, substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse
